One of the best options out there has to be the Nintendo Wii. This console has plenty to offer in the way of virtual exercise, and depending on what kind of activities you enjoy, you could be playing tennis, ping pong, golf or even challenging your friends to a friendly game of baseball. Still need to unleash some steam? There’s boxing too. All virtual of course. No one gets hurt. Oh, but make sure you don’t flail your arms everywhere and hit something or worse, someone. Anyway, it’s all included in the Nintendo Wii sports package. Now, what makes the Nintendo Wii Sports package different?
You might be thinking that if you have seen one game console then you’ve seen them all, but that surely isn’t the case here. The Nintendo Wii was the hottest console last Christmas. It even beat out the Sony Playstation 3 and Microsoft XBOX 360. In fact, Nintendo chose not to compete with Sony and Microsoft. They figured that casual gamers will pick their system over the hardcore systems. Also, the hardcore gamers that did purchase either the Playstation 3 or XBOX 360 will often get a Wii as well. The Wii has a unique aspect to it. You simply aren’t limited to holding a controller with lots of buttons, where you have to struggle to think about what each button is for and you end up pausing the game numerous times to re-read that damn manual.
Nintendo Wii sports are a little different from that, to say the least. You’ll soon find yourself off the couch and playing like a kid with a new toy. The Nintendo Wii sports controller is really more like your TV remote. There are also just a few number of buttons on it. That makes life real easy from the get go. Because it’s so simple, it allows you to get right into the game without trying to remember what button does what.
Oh, but that’s not all. With Wii Tennis, you’ll quickly notice that instead of trying to control the racket of your Mii (that’s Wii talk for your virtual avatar) tennis player using a combination of buttons, all you really need to do is swing it. The Nintendo Wii sports package actually lets you use the remote as if you were wielding the real life thing. If you’re attempting to hit the ball, just swing the controller like you would if it were a tennis racket or a golf club. Again, just make sure no one is standing behind you first! Also keep the safety strap fastened. I’ve seen really expensive LCD or Plasma TV’s wrecked by a flying Wii remote.
Folks, the Nintendo Wii sports package definitely has something for everyone. Regardless of what kind of sports you enjoy, you will find something just for you. Perhaps the best thing about it is that you can be playing great tennis (well okay, average tennis depending on your skill…) with your friends just minutes after taking it out of the box. In the end, maybe its best to just stick with light games such as those developed for the Wii? At least children will learn the sport and you can help them develop good sportsmanship and not do dastardly acts like that little league sucker punch.
